Rise of the Three Moons
The Trilunium Chronicles, Book 4
Back to the beginning
Four sisters from New Sargasso are camping with their family and wander into a cave. From there they find themselves in the Worldless Valley – an area full of cave entrances, though some are covered by rock slides. They choose another one to go through and find themselves in an empty world.
Four princes are on the run from marauders in their dying world of Odzoo. They take refuge in a cave and find themselves in a world that is empty save for an odd glow and four girls, slightly younger than themselves.
A majestic dragon flies overhead, alternately breathing fire and ice to create the world. When he lands, the earth beneath them trembles as valleys are created and mountain ranges spring up from the reverberations of his footprints.
Maria, the youngest of the sisters at age eight, points out the three moons and says that’s ridiculous. Everyone knows there’s only one moon.
Crown Prince Patrick, age 16, scoffs, telling her everyone knows two moons is normal.
She glares at him and says she’s never speaking to him again.
The dragon lands lightly in front of the four sisters and four princes. He tells them they have witnessed the creation of a new world called Trilunium.
As they watch, trees grow from nothing and eagles appeared from the mountains, carrying small animals. They were set down near the children who watched as they grew quickly to full size – including animals only dreamed about in New Sargasso – like dinosaurs and all manor of half-human/half-animal creatures, such as centaurs, or animal hybrids, like griffins.
The dragon tells the creatures he is Sofós Voskós, the Wise Shepherd and son of the Ruler of the Skies. Their world is new and good and has no evil in it.
But evil will come and when it does, help from beyond will also come.
He turns to the children and tells them they will return when situations in the world of Trilunium are most dire.
When the time comes, the world will be ruled by strong queens and princes who will support them. The queens and princes will be good and kind and just.
Crown Prince Patrick informed Sofós Voskós that he would stay in Odzoo to protect his people as long as necessary.
Sofós Voskós told Prince Patrick his destiny lie across more worlds than he knew existed and, when the time came, he would fulfill his destiny with honor.
Maria exclaimed that she couldn’t wait to tell her friends all about Trilunium. Sofós Voskós shook his head sadly and breathed on the eight of them, telling them they would only remember this as if a dream but would return when he called and the time was right.
The princes run toward the mountains and disappear into a rocky crevasse.
The sisters returned through the cave to the mountainside to find out only a couple of hours have passed. When their parents question them, they only remember exploring a cave.
