Crown Prince Patrick, age 16, is the oldest of the four princes from Odzoo who are drawn through a portal into the new world of Trilunium. He’s cautious but relieved when the dragon creating the world proves to be kind.
Patrick does not understand the dragon’s words that he will be important in more worlds than he knows exist. That sounds odd to Patrick. He knows of three worlds now – the dying Odzoo, this new world, and whatever world the four young ladies are from. How many more worlds could there be?
He didn’t understand why the youngest girl says it’s normal for a world to have one moon though – Odzoo had two.
Patrick and his brothers return to Odzoo, though they don’t remember it later.
Two years later, they return to Trilunium along with the four sisters from another world. As they plan to retake the land from the evil forces that have overtaken it, Patrick realizes the youngest sister, Maria, has wandered off. He follows her tracks to the lair of the evil two-headed dragon, Deimos and Phobos.
As Crown Prince, it’s Patrick’s job to protect those who trust him to provide for their safety. He negotiates with one half of the two-headed dragon for Maria’s release in exchange for himself. The other head refused to honor the deal and Patrick found himself imprisoned with Maria.
He’s not sure how to handle the distraught 12-year-old girl, but does his best to comfort her and cajole her into a better mood.
Sofós Voskós somehow secures their release. He allows them to climb on his back and flies them to safety.
They watch as Sofos Voskós becomes an innocent sacrifice in their places. Maria sobs, but Patrick understands the dragon’s sacrifice.
He’s as shocked as anyone when Sofós Voskós returns to fight their battle with them, stronger and more powerful than ever before.
When they leave, his next younger brother remains behind. Aaron marries Charlotte, the oldest of the sisters, and will support her as she rules Trilunium. He will miss his closest confidant, but more than any of them, understands that sacrifices must be made to protect one’s people. He and his younger twin brothers return to Odzoo.
A year later, they are called back to Trilunium. Aaron and Charlotte’s peaceful reign is nearly a thousand years in Trilunium’s past. The six remaining Winklestein sisters and Odzooken princes must navigate through the Maze of the Silver Moons to fight the evil forces controlling Trilunium.
Maria suggests asking Sofós Voskós for his help, but before Patrick can comment on the idea, Caleb struck off into the maze leaving the rest of them to follow.
Throughout the perilous journey, Patrick leads to the best of his ability. Maria offers a few timid suggestions, but knowing she didn’t understand strategy like he did, Patrick ignores them.
This time, it’s Emily and Joshua who remain behind. The other sisters leave for their world, as Patrick sends Caleb with them. The experts say their world still has quite some time before dying, but Patrick doesn’t believe them. Before he can return to Odzoo, Sofós Voskós reprimands him for not listening to Maria. He reminds Patrick that Patrick is not the sole arbiter of the right thing to do.
Chastised, Patrick returns to his world to find it’s death has already started accelerating.
He never speaks of what happens, but as Odzoo breathes its last, a battered and beaten King Patrick returns to Trilunium to find evil has infiltrated that world once again. He discovers that Caleb has married Anne and they have three children together, including twin boys.
They vanquish the evil in Trilunium. Maria goes to Earth to gather Caleb and Anne’s children, but doesn’t return. Caleb and Anne grieve the loss of their children to them. Sofós Voskós has made it clear during each trip to Trilunium that all things happen for a reason. Caleb and Anne accept that their children need to remain on Earth even as they remain in Trilunium.
Patrick tries to make it back to Odzoo, but finds his way blocked by a rockslide. Instead, he finds the portal to Earth, intent on retrieving Caleb’s children.
Instead, he’s unable to return. He must learn to navigate an entirely new world and marries Maria at the insistence of her parents in order to raise Caleb’s children.
For many years it’s enough for him to co-parent with Maria, but eventually the marriage becomes something more than mere convenience. They have children together, though Caleb and Anne’s children are nearly grown.
The twins disappear. He can’t explain how he knows, but he’s certain the adult twins have gone back to Trilunium and will not return to Earth. The authorities, who have long found the disappearances of Maria’s sisters suspicious suspect either Patrick has done something to the twins or is hiding them to avoid military service.
Patrick longs to tell them of his exploits and that he is, in fact, a king in his own world, but manages to simply pack up Maria and their young children to return to Trilunium.
The third child of Caleb and Anne, now a young woman refuses to go with them.
Finding their way blocked, Patrick works tirelessly to create an opening big enough to crawl through. Instead of Trilunium, they find themselves in the Worldless Valley. Maria knows which cave should lead to Trilunium, but it too is blocked.
Their youngest child wanders into another cave. The family follows. They find themselves in another world as it’s being created.
A giant silver wolf is creating this world. As he does, memories of Sofós Voskós creating Trilunium come back to Patrick and Maria.
Once he is done, the wolf stands in front of Patrick and reminds him of the prophecy that he would protect more worlds than he knew existed. In this world, Patrick would once again be king, but Maria would be his co-regent, not merely his consort. That would be how all monarchial couples would work in this new world.
He wondered at what would become of the daughter left behind,b it the wolf reminds him her story is not Patrick’s to know.
